Video: Braves Fans Litter Field After Controversial Call
Matt Holiday provided the firepower with a sixth inning homer with the St. Louis Cardinals going on to a 6-3 win over the Atlanta Braves in the National League Wild Card game. The result provided the subtext with the headline devoted to a disputed call in the eighth inning and the fan reaction that followed.
Umpire Sam Holbrook invoked the infield fly rule, calling out Braves batter Andrelton Simmons, even though his fly ball landed in short left field. The sellout crowd of 52,631 at Turner Field tossed bottles, cups and other assorted projectiles to register their displeasure. The game was delayed for 19 minutes while the debris was cleaned up.
