Very Bad Snap [Video]

By on November 5, 2012 in Multimedia

We’ve all snapped the pigskin to a teammate standing close during a touch football game in the neighborhood park. Long snapping requires a bit more skill and practise.

Rather than attend to his environmental science homework, perhaps Garden City Buffaloes center Mitch Moore should have taken a few extra reps on the practise field. His team was facing Kansas high school rival Dodge City Red Demons in the annual “Hatchet Game” contest. It is named after the decorated hatchet presented to the winning team.

In the video we see Garden City lined up in the shotgun with quarterback Greyson Tempel waiting for the long snap. Thinking his pivot was right behind him, Moore snapped the ball straight up in the air. This provided an opportunity for Dodge City defensive back Immanuel Galloway to step in for the unlikely steal.

Galloway raced 78 yards for the touchdown — the deciding points in a 24-20 Red Demons’ win.

“It just hit him dead in stride and I’ve never seen anything like it in my whole coaching, playing career. Mitch said he kind of lost track of being in the shotgun formation. It’s something he nor I can explain. Nobody has done more for our program than Mitch, nobody feels any worse about it than Mitch. But I will say one thing, we don’t have the kind of seasons we’ve had the last couple of years without Mitch Moore and his leadership.” — Buffaloes Head Coach Brian Hill
