CALGARY, AB — Future Considerations Hockey today announced Joe Hicketts as the Franchise Hockey Manager draft eligible Defenseman of the Month for February.
In 13 games, Hicketts recorded two goals and 12 points, his most productive month of the season to date. With the totals, the 5-foot-8, 186-pound rearguard has matched his career best in goals with six, while his 23 points are one off his personal high despite playing in only 30 games this year due to an upper-body injury.
“Hicketts has returned from injury without missing a beat,” Future Considerations Western Hockey League head scout Zenon Herasymiuk said. “He is a central puck-moving component on a very deep Victoria team. His energetic and forward thinking style will attract a lot of NHL attention come June.”
Also considered for the award was Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts. Ekblad, who is Future Considerations’ top-ranked prospect for the 2014 NHL Draft, recorded five goals and 10 points in 14 February games.
