Nelson Piquet Jr., Brian Scott on Probation after NASCAR Incident [VIDEO]
RICHMOND, VA. — Late on Tuesday afternoon, NASCAR officials announced their ruling regarding a post-race altercation between Nelson Piquet Jr. and Brian Scott at Richmond International Raceway last Friday.
The Brazilian and the American exchanged punches and kicks following contact between their cars in a battle for the 15th position. After the race, Scott approached aggressively and Nelson threw him against the wall. After some punches, Nelson kicked Brian “below the belt”, before the team members were able to stop the fight. The kick wasn’t strong, according to the American driver.
The punishment was stiff with Thomas Costello and Michael Scearce, crew members from Scott’s team, fined US$ 15,000 and suspended for the next four races in the Nationwide Series. Both were also put on probation until the end of the year.
The drivers, Scott and Piquet Jr., were also placed on probation until June 26 for violating the rules and engaging in a fight on the track after the race was over. Chris Carrier and Phil Gould, crew chiefs of the respective teams, received the same punishment.
