Minor Hockey Brawl [VIDEO]
Next time you are sitting around a table with friends in your favorite hockey pub pose the following question, “Should fighting be banned in the NHL?” You will find fans on both sides of the fence, and they likely will have strong opinions on the topic.
Has fighting outlived it’s effectiveness in the game? Is it necessary to protect the skilled players? What do you think?
It is worth keeping in mind that NHL’ers are role models for minor hockey league players. “I’m Stamkos!” “I’m Malkin!” “I’m Giroux!” It’s something that we’ve all heard (and done.) But do we want young players idolizing the ‘talents’ of Krys Barch, George Parros and Zac Rinaldo?
Below you will find a video from NK-TV in Russia with clips from a recent game between the Moscow Polar Bears and Metallurg Novokuznetsk. The KHL version of Metallurg Novokuznetsk features former NHL’ers Brent Sopel, Chris Simon and Randy Robitaille. But this video is about teams of 10-year-olds in a game that got wildly out of control.
For the record, the Polars Bears were leading 3-0 when the game was called due to fighting. At the time each bench was left with a handful of players with at least a dozen in each penalty box.
Here’s a few of the comments left by viewers of the YouTube video:
“it appears that the next generation of hockey enforcers will all come from Russia” — brozors
“In Soviet Russia, hockey is played the way its supposed to be played.” — mailmeonline
“the young russians playing the canadian way aww yeeeaah” — calvinbaII
“fighting is a part of hockey, their just a buch of kids having fun, sometimes certain leagues actually allow this to happen just for fun, these kids are clearly wearing cages and protective wear, nobody died its just a game and I’m sure if they didn’t wanna be involved or couldn’t handle it they wouldn’t be playing hockey to begin with” — timeisrunningoutt
