Every avid hockey fan remembers the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 9th, when the Leafs player, Mikhail Grabovski bit Max Pacioretty on the forearm during a fight in the third period. The Leafs were leading 6-0 by that time. After the end of the game, the Canadiens released photos of the bite mark on Max’s forearm and gave him a precautionary tetanus shot. Yet the National Hockey League could not determine that the bite really happened since the videos only show Grabovski’s mouth being covered, leaving no way to see the chomping.

This past Sunday April 21st Chelsea FC was meeting Liverpool FC for the FA Cup. Something similar happened during this soccer game. Reds striker, Luis Suarez bit the Blues player, Branislav Ivanovic on the arm during a scoring threat in the Chelsea defense zone.

The video above clearly shows Suarez holding and biting Ivanovic’s arm. For his bad behavior, the player was fined an undisclosed amount by Liverpool and charged for violent conduct by the FA League.

“Luis Suarez has accepted a charge of violent conduct, following an incident with Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday’s fixture at Anfield. However, Suarez has denied the FA’s claim that the standard punishment of three matches is clearly insufficient for this offence. The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed. An independent regulatory commission will hear the case tomorrow, Wednesday, 24 April,” said the Football Association.

Suarez has quite long file regarding aggressions in his career. While he was playing in the Dutch League, in 2010, he bit PSV’s midfielder, Otman Bakkal, at that time he was handed a seven-match ban by the Dutch FA and fined by his then club Ajax for biting Bakkal.

evra_1715584a“It’s something you can never imagine happening on a pitch. It happened once already. At first I thought maybe it was an accident but, apparently, he loses it sometimes. Now we just have to wait and see what the FA does – and then what his future will be in England,” said the midfielder now playing for Dynamo Moscow.

Yesterday, during the Manchester United celebration after winning  the club’s 20th league title, Patrice Evra picked a fake arm that was thrown onto the field from the crowd at Old Trafford and bit it. The joke wasn’t only about the early incident with Chelsea. Suarez served an eight-game suspension last season for racially abusing Evra during an on-field confrontation and then snubbed the defender during pregame handshake later in the season.

The Liverpool striker may end the season on ban but will not be removed from PFA Player of the Year shortlist.
