► Byfuglien extended
- Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien has signed a 5-year $38 million contract extension.
- With the signing of the Jets best blueliner what does it mean for captain Andrew Ladd? Speculation is that he will be traded at the deadline but Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will attempt to try and sign him before considering a trade.
► Murray extended
- Columbus Blue Jackets have extended 2012 second overall pick Ryan Murray to a 2-year $5.65 million contract. Murray will look to help a struggling defensive core in Columbus.
► Dion Phaneuf shipped out of Toronto
- Maple Leafs send their captain Dion Phaneuf to the provincial rival Ottawa Senators along with forwards Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey and Ryan Rupert along with defenceman Cody Donaghey in exchange for forwards Colin Greening, Milan Michalek and Tobias Lindberg as well as defenceman Jared Cowen and a second round pick in 2017. No salary was retained.
- Ottawa gets a depth defenceman that they needed to solidify their blueline while the Leafs open up some huge cap space that they can put towards rebuilding their team.
► Yeo fired
- The Minnesota Wild have fired head coach Mike Yeo. This move came after the team went 0-5-3 in their previous eight games.
► Price out for the year?
- There have been multiple reports that suggest that Canadiens goaltender and reigning Hart trophy winner Carey Price will not return to action. When asked about it Michel Therrien did not confirm that the rumors are true.
- Price has not looked good at times during his rehab skates but continues to work hard to resume playing.
► Stamkos staying post deadline
- Lightning GM Steve Yzerman has issued a statement informing that captain Steven Stamkos will not be traded by the deadline. With that being said they will attempt to resign his but if they can’t than Stamkos will be available on the open market as of July 1st.
