12 Days of Christmas Treats: Chocolate Chip Cookies

PHILADELPHIA, PA — It’s finally here: Christmas Eve! After a few weeks of pre-holiday flurries and shopping and planning and organizing, the big night has finally arrived. And so has my favorite Christmas baking recipe! (We’ve even included a slight variation at the bottom of the page!) Sit back, relax, pour a glass of milk and enjoy some old-fashioned, traditional chocolate chip cookies with your family while you wait for a jolly old elf to come down the chimney. Chocolate Chip Cookies

Prep/Cook Time: 30 minutes
Yield: 60 cookies
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 12-oz. pkg. NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1. Preheat oven to 375° F. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.
2. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy.
3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels.
4. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. (I like to use parchment paper for easy cleanup.)
5. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
6. PAN COOKIE VARIATION: Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan. Prepare dough as above. Spread into prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack. Makes 4 dozen bars.
