Game Day Meal: Canada Day Cocktail
by Erica, Staff Writer, HockeyPub.com
MONTREAL, QC. — This year’s All Habs Draft Party is going to be one for the ages. I can feel it. There’s only one disadvantage: if you’re not at a pub, you don’t have a bartender to mix drinks for you! Since something clearly had to be done about this, I went on the hunt for new cocktail recipes and came across a really good one. It’s a Canada Day cocktail that was first published in Chatelaine magazine – who’d have thought?
It tastes so good that you might want to drink it just a little too quickly. And while there are quite a few ingredients, it’s pretty easy to make. There’ll be tons of time between draft picks to make a round. Now, I know there’s probably some tough guy out there reading this, thinking that he doesn’t drink anything that’s pink. To you, tough guy, I say this: It’s not pink, it’s red. For Canada Day. And if red is good enough for the Montreal Canadiens, the Calgary Flames, and the Mounties, then you should probably try it.
Oh, and did I mention there’s maple syrup in it?

Ingredients:
6 fresh raspberries
1/2 oz maple syrup
2 oz Victoria gin (I used another brand of gin because my liquor cabinet isn’t Canadian enough)
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1 can club soda
raspberries and lemon for garnish (optional)
1. Muddle raspberries, maple syrup, gin and lemon juice in a shaker. Shake well.
2. Strain into a tall (Collins) glass filled with ice. (Be sure to strain well, and make sure that you don’t leave any boozy goodness in the shaker when it should be in your glass!)
3. Top with club soda, a lemon wheel, and a few raspberries.
Enjoy the drink and the All Habs NHL Draft Party!
