Flight to Middle Earth: An Unexpected Briefing [Video]
Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of the year in the United States. The latest movie based on a JRR Tolkein tale titled “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is due to be released on December 14 in the US and Canada. Put those two together and it seemed a perfect time for us to share with you an airline safety video that we came across recently.
Air New Zealand has begun showing “An Unexpected Briefing” on its 777-300ER flight to advise its passengers on air safety measures prior to departure. In an effort to attract the attention of passengers to important emergency information the airline teamed up with Weta Workshop — yes the Academy Award winning studio — to create a Middle Earth feel to their video. You’ll see hobbits, orcs, and dwarfs occupying the cabin with messages delivered by the elvish flight attendant and the wizardly pilot.
Keep a sharp eye open for a cameo appearance by Sir Peter Jackson. Don’t blink as he’ll disappear before your eyes.
Air New Zealand is the 2012 winner of Airline of the Year presented by Air Transport World.
